Erik Goldfield

Erik is a clinical mental health counselor with 10+ years of experience.  Erik began working in a hospital setting as a Pastoral Counseling intern, and then in the school system as a school based mental health therapist.  For the past eight years, Erik has been working as an outpatient therapist in a private practice setting.  He specializes in working with ASD (Autism Spectrum), ADHD, Anxiety based disorders, depression and anger/behavioral disorders (ODD, DMDD, etc.).  Erik works with a broad demographic including children, teens, and adults, dealing with emotional, behavioral, and relational issues.  Erik has facilitated numerous social skills groups for children and adolescents and currently runs social skills groups for children and teens at South Charlotte Family Counseling.  Erik also works with adolescents and teens dealing with screen based disorders and process addiction that encounter impairments in their lives due to excessive screen time.  Erik incorporates a directive and wholistic approach to therapy with an emphasis on family systems, utilizing strengths and supports throughout.  Erik does come from a multi-cultural background, (Swedish) and speaks German, Swedish, and English fluently.  Erik is comfortable discussing faith and works with a diverse clientele base, inclusive of LGBTQIA and multicultural backgrounds.  

 Erik holds a Masters level degree in Clinical Therapy/Counseling from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte and is a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor (LCMHC) and Nationally Certified Counselor (NCC).  Erik has worked in private practice, and for Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools as a school based therapist, and has been a group facilitator for both, working with kids and teens dealing with anger, addiction and social skills issues.   Erik was a former communications director for Southeast Pscyh, and has been an author for their blog site “Shrink Tank”.  Erik has conducted several workshops on screen addiction for local organizations and schools,  and currently Social Skills groups for South Charlotte Family Counseling.  Modalities used in therapy include but are not limited to Cognitive Behavioral, Dialectical Behavioral, Narrative Exposure, Behavior Modification, Person Centered, and Social Skills/role play based methods.
